The Benefits of being Lazy

I have confessed to people “I am the laziest person.” which surprises them because they see me as a hard worker with high standards.  Here’s how I define lazy:  I want to get the job done, but without a lot of wasted/non value added effort.  Here are the benefits of being lazy:

  1. You are ruthless at prioritizing because when you’re lazy, you are trying to get rid of the stuff you don’t want to do. You’re constantly weeding out what’s not important/trivial/doesn’t matter so that you have time to work on the important stuff.  You just need to be good at distinguishing between the two.
  2. You constantly leverage someone else’s best practices. No point in starting from scratch if someone else has already figured out the best way. But make sure you give credit to the person.
  3. You are always looking for the simplest, easiest ways to get things done. Not because you want to cut corners, but because you have no patience for 100 step processes, multiple signoffs, and too many data requirements.  Simple is always better-it’s simplifying in a complex, exception ridden world that’s hard.

So embrace your inner laziness.
