Being Too Perfect

If we’re really honest with ourselves, we want to be perfect. We want everything to be in its place, to go as planned, to be in a perpetual state of perfection.

While that all sounds good, it can get in the way of how people perceive you. Remember, you need the balance of power (being credible) and attractiveness (people wanting to help you). It’s hard for people to want to help you if you’re perfect….perfection can be viewed as cold or unapproachable, even if that’s not who you are.

One way to not be perfect is to use the power of self-deprecating humor and poking fun at yourself. Tell a story about how you got locked out of the hotel room wearing only a towel.  Of how you thought you overslept, and found out your clock was wrong. Any story that is slightly embarrassing and funny.

What it does is show people that you are just like them. Human.
