I sometimes co-teach a class with an old colleague who’s now a professor…and this week I came to his class on leadership. So, as always I tend to talk about Lessons Learned as a guest speaker. Little did I know I was going to have a guest myself.
One of the students brought her third grade daughter to class. She was delightful and hilarious. So when I was talking about “saying hello”, she raised her hand and said:
“You should also say thank you!”
I replied: “Wow, you’re so right. That’s also on my list!”
And when I talked about how to manage projects, she raised her hand again and said:
“Is that like there’s no I in team?”
She proceeded to ask a number of other questions: “What did I want to be when I grow up?”, and “How old are you?” (her mother was mortified).
I informed the rest of the class that she was putting them all to shame.
